ME News, April 9 (UTC+8): Multiple law enforcement groups, including the United States Marshals Association, the National District Attorneys Association, and others, have recently sent letters to members of Congress opposing a provision in the Senate’s Cryptocurrency Market Structure Act that would protect DeFi software developers from being classified as money transmitters. They argue that this provision would weaken the ability of law enforcement agencies to combat financial crimes. Senate Banking Committee Chairman Tim Scott and Senator Cynthia Lummis insist that the provision cannot be amended or altered, and the crypto industry has also clearly stated that it does not accept amendments to the substantive text. Democratic Senator and Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley and others have called for adjustments to the wording. After Congress recesses, whether the bill can secure bipartisan support to move forward for committee review remains unclear. (Source: Foresight News)
