Trump: It's time for the U.S. to collect tolls for the Strait of Hormuz.
Xinhua News Agency reported that in a press briefing at the White House on June 6, U.S. President Trump claimed that the “toll fees” for the Strait of Hormuz should be collected by the United States, not Iran.
Asked how to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, Trump said that reopening the Strait of Hormuz must become part of a plan to end the conflict. “A deal that I can accept must be reached, and one of the terms in that deal is to ensure the free passage of oil and all kinds of goods.”
He again claimed that the United States had militarily defeated Iran, and therefore the “winner should have the spoils,” adding that it should be the United States, rather than Iran, that charges toll fees for ships passing through the strait. “Why don’t we charge? We are the winners.”
A spokesperson for Iran’s Armed Forces, the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, said in a statement later on the evening of June 6 that Trump’s filled-with-“delusions” remarks, as well as his rude and arrogant language and unfounded threats, cannot make up for the “humiliation” the United States has suffered in the West Asia region.
