Just came across something interesting about Representative John James's financials from the latest FEC disclosure. The guy pulled in $61.4K in Q2 fundraising, which honestly isn't huge compared to other politicians, but what caught my eye was his cash position. James had around $496.4K on hand by the end of the period and his net worth sits at an estimated $9.3M, making him the 98th wealthiest member of Congress.
What's more fascinating is looking at his stock moves. He's been actively trading - sold up to $50K of Microsoft back in September 2024, and that stock has jumped 23% since then. Also dumped positions in TJX, UL, PNC, and Fox Corp around the same timeframe. Some of those picks have done pretty well, like his Fox Corp sale which is up 86% now.
Beyond the trading activity, James has been pushing some policy too. Recent bill proposals include stuff around critical minerals supply, app store accountability, and supply chain resilience. The John James net worth profile on Quiver shows he's got about $438.3K in tracked public assets, which is a decent chunk of his overall wealth. Interesting to see how politicians balance their personal portfolios with their legislative priorities.
