On April 7, a sudden safety incident occurred at Saudi Arabia’s Jubail Industrial City, the “heart” of the global petrochemical industry. Iranian media disclosed that the local Jubail Industrial City was targeted, and Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Defense also confirmed the interception of 7 ballistic missiles, with debris falling near energy facilities.

Jubail Industrial City is located on the eastern coast of Saudi Arabia along the Persian Gulf. It is one of the largest petrochemical industrial clusters in the world and also one of the most complete industrial chains. It is a core pillar of Saudi Arabia’s “Vision 2030” for the energy and chemical industries.

As a key base for petrochemical giants such as Saudi Aramco and SABIC, this area brings together production capacity across the full industrial chain, including refining and chemicals, basic chemical products, and new materials. Its annual output of petrochemical products is about 60 million tons, accounting for 6%-8% of the world’s total petrochemical output. It is the core supply source for key chemical feedstocks such as polyethylene, polypropylene, methanol, ethylene glycol, and MDI/TDI, directly affecting the operation of the global energy and chemical supply chain.
