Apple's first foldable screen phone is already in trial production and may be launched in the second half of 2026, with an expected starting price of no less than $2,000.
According to Caixin Media, a reporter learned from industry chain insiders on April 6 that Foxconn has already started trial production of Apple’s foldable-screen iPhone. In 2025, the reporter learned from a supply-chain company that Apple’s shipment target guidance provided to suppliers is that the first foldable-screen phone will be launched in the second half of 2026—a large foldable-screen iPhone.
Also according to Henan Daily, at Apple’s shareholder meeting in February this year, no additional information about Apple’s foldable-screen phone was released. In recent times, news about Apple’s first foldable-screen phone has been circulating online. The product is believed to be released in autumn 2026. Leaked information says that the foldable iPhone will use a “book-style” horizontal fold design; after unfolding, the screen size will reach 8 inches, with a resolution up to a 4K-level, delivering display effects comparable to those of the iPadmini.
Market analysis believes that if Apple truly launches a foldable device, it is expected to bring a significant boost to the global foldable-screen industry chain.
On July 21, 2025, according to Caijing Net Tech, citing media reports, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reiterated in the latest issue of Power On that Apple’s foldable phone iPhone Fold will be released in 2026 (next year), with an expected starting price of no less than $2,000.
Gurman said that over the past seven years, Samsung has already completed a difficult march in the foldable-screen field, creating conditions for Apple iPhone Fold’s various advanced technologies. Next, Apple will fully leverage the characteristics brought by this device’s new form factor through iOS 27. It is expected that a new multitasking interface mechanism will be introduced, and the system apps will also be adjusted, so that the corresponding apps can deliver different experiences on both the inner and outer screens.
Gurman also pointed out that the main reason Apple decided to roll out the iPhone Fold is that the Chinese market has strong interest in this type of phone, and the company hopes to further expand the sales of its device models in China.
In terms of specifications, the public generally expects this iPhone Fold foldable phone will be equipped with an internal screen of about 7.8 inches, as well as an external screen of around 5.5 inches. In the folded state, the device’s thickness is expected to be 9mm to 9.5mm; after unfolding, the thickness is expected to be 4.5mm to 4.8mm.
