Iraqi armed groups announce extension of attack pause on the U.S. embassy for 5 more days

On the evening of the 27th local time, a security official and spokesperson for the Iraqi Shiite armed group “Liwa al-Shaheed,” Abū Mujāhid al-Asāf, issued a statement announcing that the suspension of attacks against the U.S. Embassy in Iraq would be extended for another 5 days. According to a statement released that evening by the Security Media Center under the Joint Operations Command of the Iraqi Armed Forces, the United States and Iraq agreed in a coordination meeting to “strengthen cooperation” in response to the continuously escalating situation in the Middle East. The U.S. Embassy in Baghdad said that both sides would jointly prevent terrorist attacks and ensure that Iraqi territory would not be used to carry out attacks against their own country, U.S. personnel, and their global partners.
