On April 6, OpenAI released a series of policy recommendations aimed at helping to address the era of AI-driven transformation, including suggestions to establish a public wealth fund, create rapid-response social safety net programs, and accelerate the development of power infrastructure. In a Monday publication titled "Industrial Policy in the Age of Intelligence: A Human-Centered Approach," OpenAI proposed a series of policy suggestions related to artificial intelligence "superintelligence," many of which are connected to social changes driven by AI. The article advocates for establishing a public wealth fund to distribute cash to citizens, allowing them to "share in the economic growth driven by artificial intelligence." It also suggests exploring ways for the public to benefit from increased AI efficiency, including incentivizing employers to trial a four-day workweek without reducing employee output. Additionally, it recommends proactively measuring AI's impact on wages and unemployment, and providing more social support to workers when "these indicators exceed preset thresholds." The company states that these recommendations are intended as a "starting point" for broader discussions, "to ensure that AI benefits everyone."
