Total retail sales of consumer goods increased by 2.8% in January-February 2026.
January–February 2026 social retail sales of consumer goods grew by 2.8%
In January–February, total social retail sales of consumer goods were 7.98T yuan, up 2.8%. Of this, retail sales of consumer goods excluding automobiles were 7.44T yuan, up 3.7%.
By location of the operating units, in January–February, retail sales of consumer goods in urban areas were 1.16T yuan, up 2.7%; in rural areas, retail sales of consumer goods were 11,630 billion yuan, up 3.2%.
By type of consumption, in January–February, retail sales of goods were 1.03T yuan, up 2.5%; catering revenue was 10,264 billion yuan, up 4.8%.
By retail business format, in January–February, among retail businesses above the designated size, convenience stores, supermarkets, department stores, and specialty stores saw year-on-year retail sales rise by 6.4%, 4.9%, 1.0%, and 0.2%, respectively; retail sales of branded specialty stores fell by 2.3%.
In January–February, the nation’s online retail sales of goods and services were 3.25T yuan, up 9.2%. Of this, online retail sales of goods were 2.08T yuan, up 10.3%, accounting for 24.2% of total social retail sales of consumer goods; within online retail sales of goods, sales of food, clothing, and daily-use goods increased by 20.7%, 18.0%, and 4.7%, respectively. Online retail services sales were 1.17T yuan, up 7.3%.
