The government has taken strong notice of the incident in which a fare rebate machine operated by KMB at Shatin Yiu Choi Court was suspended.

KMB said it had immediately followed up, and the rebate machine has resumed normal operation.

The suspension of the rebate machine will affect all passengers, including those who benefit from the “Two Dollars, Two Discounts” scheme. The government has instructed KMB to promptly refund the step-by-step fare rebates to affected passengers.

During the period when the rebate machine at Shatin Yiu Choi Court was faulty, people who benefit from the “Two Dollar Discount Scheme” were unable to retrieve the fare rebates, which will increase the fare subsidies under the scheme. The government emphasized that it will not reimburse KMB for any additional fare subsidies resulting from this, and will work closely with KMB to monitor the detailed arrangements for the subsidies, to protect public funds.

The government reiterated that as a public transport operator, KMB has a responsibility to ensure its systems operate normally. It urged KMB to seriously follow up and avoid similar incidents from happening.
