Building a Fragrant Campus! Shandong Foreign Affairs Vocational University Launches the 2026 Reading Festival

On April 1, the 2026 Reading Festival of Shandong Foreign Affairs Vocational University was officially launched in the library lobby. The event is designed to ignite the reading enthusiasm of all faculty and students, so that “love reading, read good books, and read well” truly becomes part of campus life. Liu Xianyi, executive president of the university; Li Hengqiang, deputy chairman and vice president; Sun Xixuan, assistant to the president; and heads of relevant departments together with representatives of faculty and students witnessed this moment of bookish fragrance.

In his remarks, Liu Xianyi pointed out that reading is an important path to carry forward China’s outstanding traditional culture, promote the spirit of the times, and enhance one’s overall personal qualities. It is also an important vehicle for universities to implement the fundamental task of fostering virtue and cultivating people, and to nurture new talents of the era. He put forward three expectations: first, to go deep into books and nourish the soul—so that in the permeation of ink fragrance, people can grasp the true essence of ideas, draw strength from wisdom, and make reading a daily habit that nurtures the body and mind, broadens one’s horizons, and cultivates character; second, to strengthen one’s abilities and apply what one has learned—to adhere to learning-through-thinking, practicing-and-reflecting, and achieving unity of knowing and doing, and to transform what is gained through reading into the driving force for seeking knowledge and pursuing scholarship, and into practical results for growth and成才, so as to realize the integration of reading-thought-use and the unity of belief and action; third, to work together to build and further cultivate a bookish atmosphere—so that all faculty and students will align their hearts and pool their efforts, actively participate, and jointly create a bookish campus with deep heritage and full of vitality, making reading the most moving scenery on campus and the most distinctive underlying color.

Sun Xixuan read out the “Implementation Plan for the 2026 Reading Festival of Shandong Foreign Affairs Vocational University.” He noted that this Reading Festival is themed “Reading Classics to Cultivate Morality and Self-Discipline,” will last one month, and is carefully planned with a series of rich and varied activities. It includes book donations, the selection of the “Top Ten Reading Stars,” lectures by renowned figures, essay and photography competitions, morning readings of classic books, and more. The aim is to help the vast number of faculty and students experience the charm of reading through participation, and enhance cultural literacy through exchange.

After the launch ceremony ended, an on-site book donation activity proceeded simultaneously. Faculty and students actively took part and donated enthusiastically. They used books as a medium to pass on knowledge and warmth, realizing shared access to books and the transmission of lines of learning, so that the fragrance of books would keep flowing on campus and that love would continue to be extended through reading.

The holding of this Reading Festival is both an important measure to enrich campus cultural life and meet the spiritual and cultural needs of faculty and students, and a practical initiative to further strengthen academic atmosphere and cultivate an excellent campus culture. It will further promote the formation of a good trend on campus in which everyone reads and reads for life.
