ME News update. On April 4 (UTC+8), Iran’s former foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said Tehran should take advantage of its “upper hand” in the war to push for a “comprehensive peace agreement to end 47 years of hostility with Washington.” In an opinion piece, he wrote: “Tehran should use its advantage—not to keep fighting, but to declare victory and reach an agreement that both ends the current conflict and prevents future ones.” He said the comprehensive peace agreement should include limits on Iran’s nuclear capabilities, as well as reopening the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for lifting all economic sanctions against Iran. Zarif said this is a “deal Washington would previously not accept, but may now accept.” Zarif served as Iran’s foreign minister from 2013 to 2021. (Source: PANews)
