Farmland waterlogging and flooding disaster risk warning issued: Stronger rainfall expected in Jiangnan, South China, and other regions
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the China Meteorological Administration jointly issued today (March 27) a risk early warning for waterlogging and waterlogged farmland disasters: it is expected that from March 29 to April 4, in areas including the south of the Yangtze River (Jiangnan), the northern parts of South China (Huainan), the eastern part of the Sichuan Basin, and the eastern part of Guizhou, there will be stronger precipitation and severe convective weather. The overlap between the main areas receiving precipitation and regions that have had above-normal precipitation earlier is relatively high. The risk of farmland wetting and waterlogging is higher in places including eastern and southwestern Hunan, central and southern Jiangxi, southeastern Guizhou, northeastern Guangxi, northern Guangdong, and western Fujian. The risk is high in places including the southern part of Huaihua in Hunan, the southwestern part of Shaoyang, the southeastern part of Changsha, the southeastern part of Xiangtan, the northern part of Hengyang, the northern part of Zhuzhou, and the southeastern part of Chenzhou; as well as most of Pingxiang in Jiangxi, the southwestern part of Yichun, the northwestern part of Ji’an, the central part of Ganzhou, and others. These conditions are unfavorable for rapeseed flowering, pollination, and pod setting, and may also delay the progress of spring planting. It is advised that areas with above-normal precipitation prepare reservoirs and ponds for water storage, and strengthen field drainage to prevent waterlogging and manage fertilizer and water.
