Regret and Relief | A well-known host almost “became involved in illegal activities”! Don’t let these two words mislead you! The consequences are serious!
Sina Finance’s “Liquor Price Insider” launches in full force: Real market prices of well-known baijiu are now at your fingertips
“Driver-only, zero-degree beer”
Have you seen ads like this before?
Many of my fellow driver friends feel tempted.
I believe many netizens also, by the name alone, think that—
The alcohol content of zero-degree beer is zero.
Is it really that way?
The truth may be more surprising than you expect!
Recently, Tao Chun, a well-known host in Shanghai, shared a video
recounting a situation that made him feel “terrified with fear.”
He almost got into a drunk driving incident!
This has sparked widespread attention among netizens.
Tao Chun explained that he recently had a meal with friends. Since he was driving, he couldn’t drink alcohol. But his friend said he happened to buy a whole case of zero-degree beer. “It contains” no alcohol, it can help loosen up, and it won’t affect driving.
However, after Tao Chun drank a few bottles, he found his face turning red and feeling slightly hot. He then looked more closely at the beer bottle. There was no obvious “contains alcohol” label.
Only after carefully checking the ingredient list did Tao Chun and his friend realize, in shock: alcohol content ≥ 3.6% vol!
Tao Chun said he felt extremely terrified at the time, and his friend was also very embarrassed. If everyone hadn’t realized that “zero-degree beer” actually contains alcohol, Tao Chun would have driven after drinking that night without knowing it.
Afterward, Tao Chun looked it up and found that this bottle of “Pearl River 0 Degrees” is called “0 degrees” because it is intended to have a better beer taste—made in an environment of 0℃. Therefore, it has to do with the production process, not that the alcohol content is 0!
He believes this kind of naming is very likely to mislead consumers. If someone “drinks to excess” and then drives, and if a traffic accident occurs, the consequences could be unimaginable. Drivers would also face administrative or even criminal penalties for drunk driving.
In addition, some people’s bodies can’t handle alcohol-containing beverages. If they drink alcohol-containing “zero-degree” beer without knowing it, it can also cause harm to their bodies.
Tao Chun reminds everyone: when you drink “zero-degree” or “alcohol-free” beer in the future, don’t let yourself be misled. You must carefully verify the ingredient list. He also calls on the relevant departments to pay attention to and rectify brands that “play close to the line.” “Contains alcohol” should be clearly labeled in a prominent place on the bottle’s packaging.
The zero-degree beer that Tao Chun mentioned
has an alcohol content ≥ 3.6% vol
And on the market, there are still many
beers with even lower alcohol content.
For example, the Qingdao beer that everyone is familiar with
has also released “alcohol-free beer”
with alcohol content < 0.05% vol
An official customer service representative for Qingdao Beer stated:
The alcohol content of this beer is indeed relatively low.
But drivers still need to pay attention to avoiding drunk driving.
The traffic police also said:
If a traffic accident occurs due to drunk driving,
no matter how much alcohol is in the body,
insurance companies will refuse to pay.
The traffic management department will also determine responsibility according to the law.
This incident has also sparked heated discussions among netizens.
Everyone chimed in, saying
“Be sure to keep your eyes open and read carefully.”
And they urged market regulators to take it seriously.
For cases where businesses “play with words to mislead consumers,”
there should be a strict investigation.
