I recently came across the fact that newcomers to crypto often don't understand what "deg" really means. I think it's worth clarifying this term.
A deg (short for degenerate) is essentially a market participant who is willing to take the maximum risk for the potential profit. It’s an abbreviation of "degenerate," but in the crypto community, the word has taken on a completely different meaning. Here, "deg" is not an insult but rather a sign of a certain trader mentality.
What sets them apart? Ordinary investors choose stable assets, but degens? They buy shitcoins, trade with huge leverage, invest in completely unknown projects. At first glance, it looks like pure madness. But here’s the catch — sometimes these absurd moves lead to truly phenomenal results.
In the community, you often hear phrases like: “I want to Rekt myself, but nothing works out.” It sounds like an admission of failure, but in reality, it’s almost a meme. Because behind this daring comes real intuition, experience, and some kind of cleverness. Not everyone can just predict which microcap will skyrocket.
It turns out that a deg is not just a risky player, but rather a character with a special vision of the market. Somewhere between a genius and a madman. And in the crypto community, this is considered something like an honorary title.
