CarMax has agreed to pay $1.1 million to settle a consumer protection lawsuit in California. The lawsuit, brought by several district attorney’s offices, alleged that the used-car retailer repeatedly failed to deliver vehicle titles to buyers within the state’s mandated 30-day timeframe. As part of the settlement, CarMax will pay civil penalties, investigative costs, and contribute to statewide consumer protection efforts, and must also implement new business practices to ensure future compliance.
