South Korean "drug lord" Park Wang-ryeol has been transferred to prosecutors, and authorities will investigate his Bitcoin transaction records.

The “drug lord” Park Wang-ryeol (47), who reportedly carried out large-scale distribution of drugs from the Philippines into South Korea, was referred to South Korean prosecutors on April 3. Park Wang-ryeol is suspected of smuggling and selling drugs in South Korea between November 2019 and July 2024. He reportedly collected funds from drug transactions through bank transfers or Bitcoin electronic wallets. The illegal proceeds that have been identified so far are approximately 6.8 billion South Korean won (about $45.09 million), and the total criminal scale is 13.1 billion South Korean won (about $86.86 million). South Korea’s Joint Investigation Department on Drug-Related Crimes will focus on tracking down his hidden funds and will conduct in-depth analysis of the Bitcoin transaction records related to the alleged crimes.
