The Executive Director of the International Renewable Energy Agency, Francisco La C… March 24, in an article in the China Daily, said that the escalation of tensions in the Middle East has exposed the vulnerability of the fossil fuel energy system, further highlighting the urgency of the transition. The article points out that as geopolitical tensions intensify, energy security has become an important issue for many countries. Economies are highly exposed to shocks from oil and gas prices, making it urgent to build a more resilient energy system. Countries should strengthen their renewable energy strategies; this can not only address climate change, but also provide an economic pathway that balances development and security. In many markets, renewable energy has become the most cost-competitive option for new power generation, outperforming fossil fuels in terms of cost, reliability, and long-term value. However, development is uneven. The deployment and investment in renewable energy remain concentrated in China, other Asian economies, and developed economies with ample capital. Many developing countries still heavily depend on international support and face funding gaps. Therefore, multilateral and bilateral development financial institutions must urgently increase funding for developing countries and improve the precision of how funds are used, eliminating systemic barriers that restrict private capital from entering.
