I just came across an interesting theory that's causing waves again in the crypto community. After the long SEC-Ripple lawsuit, an old statement by David Schwartz has been brought back into focus—and with it, the question: Could Ripple CTO actually be Satoshi Nakamoto?

The whole thing is based on a statement from David Schwartz in 2021, where he explained why Ripple focused on XRP instead of Bitcoin. His reasoning was quite interesting—the control over XRP gave Ripple a clear advantage over competitors. But here’s where it gets intriguing: in his explanation, Schwartz hinted that Satoshi Nakamoto held a huge amount of XRP in 2017. Of course, this is speculative, but it has shaken the Bitcoin maximalist community.

Edoardo Farina, CEO of Alpha Lions Academy, picked up on this information and challenged the classic claim that Bitcoin is the superior cryptocurrency. Max Keiser famously predicted a crash of XRP to $0.01 in 2024—a forecast that did not come true. Currently, XRP is trading at around $1.32, with a slight increase of 0.22% in the last 24 hours.

But back to David Schwartz and the Satoshi theory. There are actually some interesting connections: the timing of Nakamoto’s withdrawal from Bitcoin and the early development of the XRP ledger starting in 2012 by Schwartz, Arthur Britto, and Jed McCaleb is striking. Even more peculiar—the date when Nakamoto released the first Bitcoin code version (November 16, 2009) is said to coincide with Schwartz’s birthday.

At the XRP conference in Las Vegas 2024, David Schwartz tried to put an end to the speculation. He admitted that he has the technical skills but is not familiar with the Qt interface—a core aspect of the early Bitcoin code. He also emphasized that he only became aware of Bitcoin in 2011. This seems like an attempt to disprove the theory, but honestly, it makes the whole thing even more mysterious.

The truth is: Nakamoto’s identity remains a secret. It could be an individual or a group behind the pseudonym. XRP holdings can never truly be verified. Is David Schwartz actually Satoshi Nakamoto? Probably not—but the questions remain open, and that’s exactly what fascinates the crypto community.
