On March 30 local time, the spring plenary session of Mongolia’s State Great Khural was held in Ulaanbaatar. That evening, the session deliberated on and adopted a resolution to appoint Ni Ukhler as the Prime Minister of Mongolia.
In the plenary session held earlier that day, the session first examined and approved the resignation request submitted by Ni Ukhler, Chairman of the State Great Khural, thereby laying the procedural groundwork for his transition to Prime Minister. The meeting then moved into the formal discussion phase regarding his qualifications for the prime ministership. With Ukhler stepping down as Chairman of the State Great Khural, the position is currently temporarily vacant; it is temporarily handled by Zha Bat-Erdene, Deputy Chairman of the Khural. A new chairman of the Khural has yet to be elected.
Analysts believe that this personnel reshuffle was an important political arrangement carried out against the backdrop of the resignation of the former Prime Minister, Zandanshatar.
