As I enter my 50s, choosing the right foundation has become really difficult. Age spots and wrinkles become more noticeable, and makeup tends to break down more easily... Recently, I’ve tried various products and realized that the key points for selecting foundations for people in their 50s are completely different from those for younger generations.
From high-end department store brands to affordable drugstore options, there are really many choices now. But when I actually try them, surprisingly few can properly cover pores without looking heavy or cakey. Finding a foundation that can handle both dryness and oiliness breakdowns is even more limited.
One product that left a strong impression on me during my trials is LANCÔME’s “Teint Idole Ultra Wear Liquid.” I heard it can cover 60% of pore unevenness, so I gave it a try, and it really makes the skin look smooth. And because it doesn’t feel heavy, it results in a natural finish. However, it only improves dark spots by about 32%, so for more prominent spots, it’s better to use concealer alongside.
I also tried CHANEL’s “Ultra Le Teint Fluide,” which has amazing power to prevent both dryness and oil breakdowns. It feels like it can last from morning makeup until evening. But the scent is quite strong, so if you’re sensitive to smells, be cautious.
Outside of high-end brands, I personally recommend SOFINA’s Primavista “Just One Finish.” It’s a BB cream, but I think it’s really good for combination skin. It addresses both oily areas like the forehead and dry areas like around the mouth. Plus, it’s affordable.
When choosing foundation for your 50s, I’ve realized that balancing pore coverage and longevity is crucial. If you’re concerned about dark spots, it’s best to prepare a separate concealer, and select a foundation that naturally covers skin concerns while lasting long. It’s worth considering high-end options but also trying drugstore brands. Finding one that suits your skin type can reduce worries about makeup breakdown during the day.
