I just saw the news that Openserve has surpassed 1.5 million fiber connections, with the connection rate still leading the industry at 52.4%. It seems that their strategic shift from copper to fiber is starting to pay off.
According to the recently released Telkom Group report, revenue related to fiber has increased by 8.7%, making up the majority of operating income. The number of households with fiber passing has surged by 12%, while the number of households actually connected has grown by 17.8%. These are good numbers for network expansion. The copper price chart reflects this industry shift as well.
What’s interesting is that Openserve allocated R557 million to capital expenditures and maintained an EBITDA margin of 34.4%, while adding more than 30,000 new household connections. It appears they have a clear plan to further increase fiber connections.
