AI data centers exacerbate power shortages; institutions are optimistic about the demand cycle for gas turbines. Wanze Co., Ltd. hits the daily limit.
April 1, in early trading, the gas turbine concept experienced a volatile rebound. Wan Ze Co., Ltd. (000534.SZ) hit the daily limit. Dongfang Electric (600875.SH) approached the daily limit. Feiwo Technology (301232.SZ), Yingliu Co., Ltd. (603308.SH), Jerry Co., Ltd. (002353.SZ), Tunan Co., Ltd. (300855.SZ), and others also followed the upward trend.
On the news front, on March 30, Jerry Co., Ltd. announced that its wholly owned subsidiary GPS signed a sales contract for a gas turbine generator set with a customer in the United States. The contract value is USD 341 million (approximately RMB 2.359 billion), accounting for 17.66% of the company’s audited operating revenue for 2024.
With the AI computing power boom, the gap in U.S. power supply is widening, leading to a significant increase in power demand. CSP manufacturers are entering the market by building their own power sources, with gas turbines as the first choice and solar storage as the second. Chinese companies are expected to benefit from the high prosperity of U.S. power infrastructure construction.
According to a report by the International Energy Agency, by 2030, global data center electricity demand will reach approximately 945 terawatt-hours. While demand continues to grow, the tight supply situation becomes increasingly prominent. Gas turbines, due to their quick response, high power adaptability, lower generation costs, and high reliability, have become the primary power source favored by AIDC.
CICC’s research report states that power shortages remain the main theme for the entire year, and the industry chain of gas turbines is highly optimistic. According to CICC’s estimates, by 2028, global demand for gas turbines will exceed 120GW. The expected global supply is about 90GW, with the gap continuing to widen. The report maintains a positive outlook on the gas turbine industry chain and trends such as ship-to-gas-turbine conversions.
