On April 1 local time, a CCTV reporter learned that the U.S. Department of Defense is doubling the size of the A-10 attack aircraft squadron it has deployed in the Middle East. It is understood that these aircraft are mainly responsible for providing support for ground forces in advance combat operations. Previously, U.S. President Trump said he wanted to end the war with Iran within two to three weeks.

Two Pentagon officials disclosed on the same day that the U.S. Air Force is sending 18 A-10 attack aircraft to the Middle East, joining the dozen or so aircraft of the same type already in that region. Previously, U.S. commanders had used these aircraft to attack Iranian vessels and militia forces in Iraq backed by Iran.

According to flight-tracking data and statements by defense department officials, these A-10 attack aircraft taking off from the U.S. mainland made transit stopovers at the Royal Air Force Lakenheath base in England while en route to the Middle East.
