Just realized a lot of people are struggling with updating their SASSA banking details, especially if they're on child grants or other permanent grants. So I'm gonna break this down because the process is actually different depending on which grant you're on.
If you're getting a permanent grant like child grant, old age, or disability - you can't just do it online. You actually have to go to your nearest SASSA office in person. Bring your ID (original and copy), and proof of your new bank account - they want an official bank statement from the last 3 months or a letter from the bank. The form they'll give you is called the Payment Method Change Form. After they process it, the bank takes up to 21 days to verify everything. Pro tip: submit this before the 15th of the month if you want it to kick in next month, otherwise you're waiting another cycle.
Now if you're on the SRD R370 grant, that's way easier because it's all online through the SASSA SRD portal. You enter your ID number, they send you an SMS link, click it, add your new bank details, done. Takes a few days to a couple weeks for verification. The catch is the account has to be in your name only - no joint accounts or anything.
For cellphone number changes, permanent grant holders should call the helpline (0800 60 10 11) or visit an office. SRD folks can use the online portal - you'll need your ID and Application ID, they send an OTP to verify. One more thing - watch out for fake websites trying to get your info. Always use the official SASSA link.
Anyone else had drama trying to update their SASSA details?
