Just realized so many people don't know you can actually update your SASSA banking details online now—well, depends on your grant type. If you're getting the SRD R370, it's pretty straightforward through their portal. You enter your ID number, they send you an SMS link, and boom, you update your banking details there. Takes a few days for the bank to verify, but way easier than before.

Now if you're on permanent grants (old age, disability, child grants), that's a different story. You actually have to go in person to a SASSA office—no shortcuts. You need your original ID, proof of your new bank account (bank statement not older than 3 months works), and they'll process it. Important thing: the account has to be in YOUR name only, no joint accounts or anything. Takes about 21 working days after they send it to the bank.

Also heads up—if you want the change to apply next month, submit it before the 15th. Miss that and you're waiting another cycle. For phone number updates, same deal: SRD folks can do it online through the contact portal with an OTP verification, but permanent grant recipients should call the helpline at 0800 60 10 11 or just visit an office. Honestly, going in person is usually faster if you've got the time. Just make sure you're using the official SASSA website—there's sketchy fake portals out there trying to steal info.
