The Ministry of Energy of the Moscow Region wants to ban cryptocurrency mining in Moscow and the surrounding area, stating that it consumes about 1 GW of energy with no significant benefit to the economy.

Restrictions on the placement of large data centers and a ban on their direct connection to power grids are also being considered.
