Just realized a lot of people don't know how to properly change their banking details for SASSA grants. If you're on permanent grants (old age, disability, child grants), you can't do this online—you have to physically go to your nearest SASSA office. Bring your original ID, a copy, and proof of your new bank account (bank statement not older than 3 months or an official letter from your bank). The form takes about 21 working days to process, so submit before the 15th of the month if you want it effective next month.

For SRD R350 grants though, it's way easier. You can change your banking details online through the official SASSA SRD portal. Just enter your ID number, they'll send you a secure link via SMS, and you update your account details there. The whole thing's electronic, which is actually pretty solid for security.

One thing to remember: your bank account must be in your name only. SASSA won't deposit into joint accounts or accounts in someone else's name. Also, if you need to update your cellphone number, there's a separate process for that too. For SRD, use the contact details portal and they'll send you an OTP to verify. If the online stuff isn't working, just call 0800 60 10 11 or visit a local office. Avoid any sketchy third-party websites claiming they can help—stick to the official SASSA channels only.
