ME News message, March 31 (UTC+8), Google recently posted that it will complete the post-quantum cryptography (PQC) migration before 2029 to address the threat that future quantum computers pose to existing cryptographic standards. Google said that quantum computers will pose a major threat to today’s encryption standards, especially encryption and digital signatures. The threat to encryption has already begun to show, for example, “store now, decrypt later” attacks; while digital signatures are a future threat that needs to transition to PQC before being deployed to quantum computers related to cryptography (CRQC). Therefore, Google adjusted its threat model, prioritizing the PQC migration of identity authentication services, and recommended that other engineering teams take similar measures.
