I just found out that Konstantin Ignatov was released from prison after more than 2 years inside. This guy was the brother of the "Cryptoqueen" and was deeply involved in the OneCoin scam, the scheme that defrauded thousands of people out of nearly $4.4 billion. The interesting part is that he cooperated with prosecutors, which is why his sentence was reduced.
The story is pretty crazy. Konstantin Ignatov pleaded guilty to money laundering and fraud, but his testimony helped convict others involved in the scheme, like Mark Scott, a lawyer who was laundering $400 million. Scott was recently sentenced to 10 years in prison.
What surprises me most is how OneCoin was marketed as "the Bitcoin killer," promising guaranteed profits, and turned out to be a classic Ponzi scheme. His sister Ruja is still on the run and listed among the FBI's most wanted. Konstantin Ignatov at least admitted what he did and cooperated, but the scale of this fraud was brutal, affecting hundreds of thousands of victims. One of the darkest cases in cryptocurrency history, no doubt.
