Just saw that Linus Torvalds has once again shared his thoughts on cryptocurrencies—and as always, he's pretty direct. The founder of Linux doesn't beat around the bush: for him, crypto is simply a "great tool for scams," basically nothing more than classic Ponzi schemes where the next fool pays the price.
What amused me: he humorously lumped belief in Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy together with cryptocurrencies. No wonder rumors have circulated over the years that Torvalds could be Satoshi Nakamoto—especially after that GitHub story in 2022, where someone changed his name in the Linux kernel to "Name = I am Satoshi." But he quickly clarified: it was just a prank by a jokester who manipulated the GitHub process.
During all the Satoshi speculation, his supposed wealth was also discussed, but Torvalds dismissed it. His wealth comes from his work on open-source projects and Linux—not from any Bitcoin holdings. He has made this clear multiple times and called the rumors "empty chatter."
In the same post, he also mocked the technological singularity—calling it a "bedtime story for children." Admittedly, it's a fascinating science fiction concept, but the idea of unlimited exponential growth? Completely unrealistic to him. The boundaries are closing in, and you can see it everywhere.
Typical Torvalds—no euphemisms, clear stance. His wealth and reputation are based on real technological contributions, not hype and speculation.
