There is still something unresolved in the case of Nikolai Mushegian. Yes, years have passed since the co-founder of MakerDAO was found dead on a beach in Condado, Puerto Rico, but the crypto community has never stopped questioning what really happened on October 28, 2022.

For those who don’t know, Nikolai Mushegian was a brilliant mind in the cryptocurrency space. He was only 29 years old when his body was found on that beach known for its dangerous currents. What makes all this even stranger is the timing of his last tweets. Hours earlier, Mushegian had posted some pretty strong statements about intelligence agencies, the CIA, Mossad, and human trafficking networks. He claimed they were after him, planning to frame him and torture him. Then he simply disappeared.

Local authorities closed the case quickly. They said there were no signs of foul play, that he only had a small laceration on his skull. Accidental drowning, end of story. But here’s the problem: many in the crypto community didn’t buy that explanation. The timing, the circumstances, Nikolai Mushegian’s previous tweets denouncing conspiracy theories... all together raise doubts.

His friends and colleagues described him as brilliant but someone who had faced mental health issues. Some billionaires in the space, like Brock Pierce, suggested it could have been suicide. Others directly question that narrative. And so, Nikolai Mushegian’s death became one of those topics that the community continues debating years later.

The truth is, when something doesn’t add up, people speculate. And in crypto, where we distrust the traditional system, it’s natural for theories to emerge. What’s clear is that Mushegian’s case left more questions than answers.
