Liu Shaowen, head of Asia Investment Strategy at HSBC Financial Services, admitted that for fund managers, Asian stock markets are often merely a “formality”—when “there’s something new or the valuation doesn’t fit the target, they don’t play.” He explained that global funds rarely invest in Asian equities over the long term; most are positioned for short- to medium-term deployment lasting one and a half years at most.
