Discussing New Opportunities in China's Economy | Exclusive Interview: China's Market Offers Unique Advantages for Foreign Enterprises in China—Interview with Siemens Global Executive Vice President Xiao Song
Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, March 29日电 Exclusive Interview: China’s Multiple Unique Advantages Create Opportunities for Foreign Companies to Develop in China—Interview with肖松, Global Executive Vice President of Siemens
Xinhua News Agency reporter Yan Jie
When Siemens’ global executive vice president肖松 was interviewed by a reporter recently, he said that the breadth of China’s industrial categories, the depth of its manufacturing ecosystem, the speed of technological innovation, and its openness to new technologies form the unique advantages of the Chinese market, bringing opportunities for the business development of foreign companies such as Siemens in China.
肖松 said that China has all industrial categories included in the United Nations’ International Standard Industrial Classification. For Siemens, which is committed to advancing the application and deployment of artificial-intelligence products and solutions in the industrial sector, the breadth of China’s industrial categories has made it fertile ground for industrial AI applications.
肖松 told the reporter that China has a large number of manufacturing companies actively engaged in every link along the upstream and downstream of the industrial value chain, and the depth of the manufacturing ecosystem highlights China’s supply-chain advantages. He said that in Shenzhen, within a supply radius of about a half-hour’s drive, one can buy all the components needed to assemble a robot; and within a supply radius of about four hours’ drive from Shanghai as the center, one can assemble a new-energy vehicle. “These are the best examples of China’s manufacturing ecosystem depth and supply-chain advantages.”
肖松 said that in fields such as artificial intelligence, new energy, and digital technology, China is showing a development momentum with each passing day, and it has always maintained an open attitude toward technological innovation. “Chinese customers don’t pursue perfection of the product from the very beginning; they are willing to keep iterating with a ‘software mindset.’”
In肖松’s view, it is precisely by relying on China’s complete range of industrial categories and the scale of manufacturing, combined with the rapid development of China’s innovation ecosystem and its openness to new technologies, that Siemens’ new products have been able to gain “added momentum.” “At the Siemens’ first Technology Conference held not long ago, we released 26 new products developed by China-based teams. Among them, the development of the SENTRON 3VD DC circuit breaker took only 9 months, which is half the time compared with the standard cycle,” he said.
肖松 said that currently, Siemens has already built a comprehensive ecosystem in China consisting of 20 R&D centers and more than 20 digital innovation enablement centers. Siemens has long become a part of China’s industrial ecosystem, and China’s high-quality economic development will bring Siemens new opportunities for growth.
“In the future, Siemens will continue to deepen its presence in the Chinese market, further integrate its technological advantages with China’s innovation pace, industrial scale, and the depth of rich application scenarios, so that more innovation achievements made in China can benefit the world,” he said.
