Chenzhou Police in Hunan Seize 310 Grams of Fraudulent Gold, Uncovering a New Investment Scam of "Two Golds for Cash"
Deep Tide TechFlow message, March 29. Recently, police in Chenzhou, Hunan intercepted 7 parcels suspected of诈骗 (fraud) at a courier distribution station, confiscating 310 grams of gold.
The gold was concealed inside everyday items such as ketchup and skin lotion. The victims in the case all fell into the same scam.
Investigators found that criminals used a combined method of “emotional connection + fake investment platform” to carry out the fraud: first, they built emotional trust through dating apps, and then induced victims to buy gold by claiming it was an insider investment and to mail it to a designated address. The so-called investment platforms were all fabricated; the earnings data within the platform could be arbitrarily altered from the backend. After victims’ funds were picked up by “runners,” the money was transferred multiple times through methods such as exchanging via virtual currency and making overseas account transfers, ultimately flowing into an overseas诈骗 (fraud) group.
Police classified the above scheme as a “two types of gold sent to cash” type of new investment scam, warning the public: any investment recommendation luring people with high returns must be highly vigilant. The confiscated gold is currently being returned to victims in stages, and the case is still under further investigation.
