Ministry of Commerce: Will Promote Investigation of Trade Barriers Against the U.S. and Take Corresponding Measures Based on the Investigation Results

Jin10 Data, March 27 — In response to a reporter's question about launching two trade barrier investigations against the U.S., a spokesperson for the Ministry of Commerce stated that on March 12, Beijing time, the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative initiated a Section 301 investigation against China and 15 other economies over "overcapacity." Then, on March 13, it launched another Section 301 investigation against China and 59 other economies over "failure to effectively prohibit the import of forced labor products." China strongly opposes this and firmly protests. To resolutely safeguard the interests of relevant Chinese industries, in accordance with the "Foreign Trade Law of the People's Republic of China" and the "Rules for Investigating Foreign Trade Barriers," the Ministry of Commerce issued two announcements on March 27 regarding the U.S. actions and measures that disrupt global production and supply chains and hinder green product trade, respectively, initiating two trade barrier investigations against the U.S. on a reciprocal basis. Moving forward, the Ministry of Commerce will, in accordance with the relevant provisions of the "Foreign Trade Law" and the "Rules for Investigating Foreign Trade Barriers," advance the investigation of trade barriers against the U.S. and take appropriate measures based on the investigation results to firmly defend its legitimate rights and interests.
