VCX Price Soars over 1,300% in One Week

This comes even as questions have started to swirl about the risks of such a massive price bid. The closed-end fund went public on the New York Stock Exchange a week ago at $31.25, meaning that its price has risen by more than 1,360% over the last seven days, as of early Thursday.

The surge is being driven by retail investors pursuing early pre-IPO (initial public offering) exposure to Wall Street’s top AI and tech heavyweights such as SpaceX, OpenAI, Anthropic, and Databricks. VCX holds stakes in these highly sought-after private companies, offering indirect exposure as typical venture capital rounds are inaccessible to regular investors.

To Jump or Not to Jump In?

However, market observers have pointed out that such an investment may not be worth it at current price levels for long-horizon investors. Jack Shannon, equity strategies principal at Morningstar, has described jumping in at this level for the long haul as “a horrible investment.”

Yet, not all observers are worried, as some see the surge as driven by organic interest, with the fund offering more direct exposure to private companies like OpenAI and Anthropic than can be gotten via large-cap tech leaders such as Microsoft MSFT -0.46% ▼ , Amazon AMZN +2.16% ▲ , and Nvidia NVDA +1.99% ▲ . This distinctive positioning of VCX could mean more upsides ahead.

Nonetheless, if sentiment sours in the AI, software, and data-infrastructure names that dominate the fund, the speculation-driven gains could quickly unwind.

Is VCX a Good Buy?

TipRanks’ technical indicators suggest that VCX is a Buy. This is based on six Bearish, one Neutral, and nine Bullish signals logged over the past week.
