The biggest lie in this AI wave: computing power isn't the bottleneck, electricity is!

By 2030, AI data center electricity consumption will surge by 160%. The power grid is becoming the ceiling for AI development.

A battle for electricity has already begun.

In Huang Renxun’s long article “AI is a 5-Layer Cake,” the foundation of the cake’s bottom layer is energy, so I will gradually analyze the current opportunities in the U.S. energy sector! The future AI revolution is fundamentally powered by an energy revolution. AI servers and data centers consume大量 electricity, requiring a rebuild of the power grid. AI data centers may account for 5%–9% of U.S. electricity demand in the future!

Since we all see this long-term trend, I hope to catch some opportunities!

I also looked into the current changes in the U.S. power structure. Thanks to the shale revolution, the cost of natural gas extraction has dropped significantly. Currently, 40% of U.S. electricity is generated from natural gas, 26% from renewable energy, 18% from nuclear, and 15% from coal. As far as I know, China’s electricity mix still relies mainly on coal, mainly due to geographic resource differences. The big A-shares will also start researching this!

If AI is a revolution in energy, where will the money flow?

I break down the entire industry chain into five parts:

  1. Natural Gas Extraction Companies
  • Largest natural gas producer:

    • EQT Corporation: the biggest natural gas producer in the U.S.

    • Chesapeake Energy: a representative company of the shale gas revolution.

    • Antero Resources: mainly extracts natural gas from the Appalachian Basin.

    • Range Resources: a key player in the Marcellus Shale.

  • Large integrated energy companies (natural gas + oil):

    • ExxonMobil

    • Chevron

    • ConocoPhillips

Natural gas power generation: short construction cycle, low cost, can expand quickly with demand.

Many institutions predict that 60% of new AI electricity demand will come from natural gas.

  1. Wind Power Companies

The U.S. wind market is mainly led by power companies and energy developers.

Wind power leaders:

  • NextEra Energy: one of the world’s largest wind developers.

  • Ørsted: a global offshore wind leader.

  • Invenergy: a major U.S. wind developer.

Wind turbine manufacturers:

  • Vestas

  • GE Vernova

  1. Solar Energy Companies

Solar is one of the fastest-growing power sources.

Solar plant operators:

  • NextEra Energy

  • Brookfield Renewable Partners

Photovoltaic equipment manufacturers:

  • First Solar: the largest PV manufacturer in the U.S.

  • Enphase Energy

  • SolarEdge

  1. Nuclear Power Companies

In the AI era, nuclear power is suddenly gaining renewed attention because it offers: stability, 24-hour power generation, and zero emissions.

U.S. nuclear leaders:

  • Constellation Energy: the largest nuclear operator in the U.S.

  • Duke Energy

  • Southern Company

Nuclear technology companies:

  • NuScale Power: small modular reactors (SMRs).

  • BWX Technologies

  1. Companies Benefiting Most from the AI Era – Power Grid and Electrical Equipment

After the explosion of AI computing power, the most关注 in energy stocks is on the power grid and electrical equipment, which require大量 transmission lines, transformers, and distribution devices. Future grid investments could reach hundreds of billions of dollars.

Power:

  • Constellation Energy

  • Vistra

Grid construction:

  • Quanta Services

Power equipment:

  • Eaton

In summary, this AI wave is essentially a revolution in power infrastructure. Over the next 5–10 years, one thing is certain:

Whoever controls the power controls the speed of AI expansion!

I am just beginning to systematically explore this direction. Many companies I’ve only briefly looked at; I haven’t done deep dives yet.

Next, I plan to do this: analyze each company thoroughly to find the core companies that can truly benefit from the AI boom.
