Beijing News Shell Finance Report (Reporter Jiang Fan) Digital yuan is gradually integrating into daily life, providing convenient and secure payment experiences, but it has also attracted some criminals to take advantage. On March 13, the Digital Yuan Operation and Management Center revealed three common scams falsely claiming to be related to digital yuan, warning consumers to protect their money.

Scheme One: Fake promotion of “Digital Yuan Promotion” to conduct pyramid schemes. Criminals use the banner of “Digital Yuan Promotion” and lure users with high returns, exchange discounts, and other tactics to join chat groups or offline meetings. Through exams, training, and meetings to brainwash participants, they induce users to recruit others and develop downlines, forming a hierarchical commission scam network.

The Digital Yuan Operation and Management Center emphasizes that digital yuan operates under a “central bank – digital yuan business operation agency” dual-layer structure, managed by the digital yuan business operation agency, participating commercial banks, and their partner financial institutions. Digital yuan has never conducted activities such as “recruiting promoters,” “promoter exams,” “downloading codes,” or “developing downlines,” nor has it charged installation or service fees. Any recruitment of “private promoters” through chat groups or offline/online meetings is a scam.

Scheme Two: Using “order brushing and rebates” to trick transfers. Criminals bait users with promises of “completing order tasks for high rebates,” convincing them to open digital yuan wallets and transfer money to unfamiliar accounts. Initially, small rebates are used to gain trust; once users invest large sums, scammers refuse to pay rebates citing reasons like “task incomplete” or “funds need to be unfrozen,” then disappear with the money.

The Digital Yuan Operation and Management Center states that digital yuan is legal digital currency and will not participate in any “order brushing and rebate” activities. Legitimate digital yuan marketing activities (such as consumption red envelopes, payment discounts, offline subsidies, etc.) do not require users to transfer money to strangers or be induced to transfer funds under the guise of “completing tasks.”

Scheme Three: Tricking users into downloading counterfeit apps to steal information or funds. Criminals exploit the public’s curiosity about digital yuan by sending false messages or posts via unofficial channels, such as “预约登记领数字人民币体验金” (appointment registration to receive digital yuan trial funds), with scam links. Users who click may be induced to fill in bank card information or download fake apps to deposit funds, ultimately leading to theft.

The Digital Yuan Operation and Management Center advises to download the official digital yuan app through authorized channels; to receive digital yuan consumption red envelopes, only use channels such as commercial banks, non-bank payment institutions, government platforms, legitimate e-commerce platforms, and offline stores.
