Ensuring Water Supply Security for the Greater Bay Area Urban Agglomeration: Pearl River "Salt-Suppression Freshwater-Supplementation" Dispatch and Water Replenishment Nearly 9 Billion Cubic Meters

According to the Ministry of Water Resources, since entering the dry season in November last year, the majority of the Pearl River Basin has experienced rainfall about 30% below the average. The saline tide at the Pearl River estuary has entered an active phase upstream. As of now, the Pearl River Water Resources Committee of the Ministry of Water Resources has scientifically managed the reservoirs upstream of the Xijiang River, including Longtan, Dafengxia, and Baisuo, releasing nearly 9 billion cubic meters of water downstream. The average flow at the Wuzhou hydrological station on the main stream of the Xijiang River has increased by 60%, fully suppressing the upstream movement of the estuarine saline tide. The water storage and withdrawal situation in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area urban cluster is the best in the past decade, ensuring water supply safety during the Spring Festival period.
