In April 2025, internet celebrity "Chai Duangdang" posted a video accusing Pang Donglai of profiteering from jade with low costs and high prices, poor product quality, and maliciously bringing up a fire incident from 27 years ago involving Yu Donglai. Pang Donglai publicly released sales data (jade accounting for only 0.34% of total sales with 20% gross margin), pricing standards, and submitted third-party testing proving product qualification. Yu Donglai angrily posted multiple statements, threatening to close the store or leave the company if the defamer was not severely punished. The conflict escalated during the May Day period, after which Pang Donglai sued for commercial defamation and reputation infringement. In March 2026, the court's first-instance judgment ruled: Chai Duangdang must cease the infringement, issue a public apology, and pay 2.6 million yuan in compensation. The core of the Yu Donglai incident: a good person driven to desperation by malicious rumors, using the law to defend their principles.
