Abstract generation in progress

Subaru is rolling out a hands-free highway driving-assist system for early 2026 Outback buyers, which will be activated for free. This technology, called Highway Hands-Free Driving Assist, is available on the Touring and Touring XT trims and has been active on Outbacks purchased after January 19, 2026, with existing owners eligible for a free update. Unlike some competitors, Subaru’s system does not require a subscription fee for its core functionality, though over-the-air map updates to expand its coverage will have a subscription.
