Tax data shows: China's scientific and technological innovation maintains good momentum in the first two months

On March 12, the State Taxation Administration announced that based on tax data, in the first two months of this year, China’s technological innovation and development have shown a strong momentum with multiple highlights.

Rapid development of innovative industries. Invoice data shows that in the first two months, the sales revenue of China’s high-tech industries increased by 16.1% year-on-year. Among them, high-tech service industry sales revenue grew by 17.2% year-on-year, especially in science and technology intermediary services, natural scientific research, and experimental development, which increased by 25.6% and 17.4% respectively; high-tech manufacturing sales revenue increased by 14.5% year-on-year.

Active flow of technological resource elements. Invoice data indicates that in the first two months, sales revenue of China’s scientific research and technical services increased by 23.6% year-on-year. Knowledge-intensive industries with high technological content, such as intellectual property (patent) intensive industries, saw a 12.8% increase in sales revenue year-on-year.

Rapid progress in the integration of digital and real economy. Invoice data shows that in the first two months, enterprises’ procurement of digital technology increased by 10.8% year-on-year. Among them, manufacturing enterprises’ procurement of digital technology increased by 16%. Core industries of the digital economy saw a 10.8% increase in sales revenue year-on-year. Specifically, digital product manufacturing and digital technology application industries grew by 13.3% and 11.9% respectively.

Chen Bin, Vice President of Central University of Finance and Economics, stated, “In the first year of the 14th Five-Year Plan, China’s technological innovation industry development demonstrates overall characteristics of stronger industry vitality, more active element flow, and deeper integration of digital and real economies, showing that the endogenous driving force for innovation-driven development continues to strengthen.”
