The Washington Supreme Court has reinstated negligence claims against Amazon Inc., ruling that families of teens who died by suicide after buying a toxic substance on its platform can sue. The court stated that suicide was not a superseding cause precluding claims under Washington’s Product Liability Act, and Amazon had a duty of care in selling sodium nitrite. This decision follows a surge in suicides facilitated by sodium nitrite ingestion after 2018, leading to numerous lawsuits against the retailer.
