Microsoft CEO Nadella and Xbox's new head Sharma hold an internal discussion, promising long-term investment in the gaming industry
The IT Home reported on March 9 that according to the technology media Windows Central today, Microsoft Xbox’s new leader, Ashish Sharma, recently invited CEO Satya Nadella to discuss the company’s long-term vision during an internal meeting, emphasizing that Microsoft will continue to invest in gaming.
Sharma asked Nadella why he has a long-term positive outlook on gaming. Nadella responded, “This question can actually be applied to anything we do. We need to create excellent games, systems, and hardware, and gaming also drives the development of cloud computing, DirectX, and graphics card technology, contributing to the server GPU computing revolution. It has truly benefited many fields.”
He continued, “I often joke with Jensen Huang that without gaming, NVIDIA might not even exist today. So I have a long-term positive outlook on gaming and will always invest in it.”
Sharma mentioned that traditional Microsoft is like a software assembly line, but excellent games obviously cannot be mass-produced: “Games must be created by humans. I’ve been thinking about how to get more support for game plots, characters, and worlds.”
Nadella also shared that Xbox is a consumer-facing brand with special value within the company. He gave an example that some major clients want to meet him not to discuss business deals, but simply because they play Xbox after work.
However, Sharma admitted that Xbox has recently faced difficulties. The gaming industry is undergoing a transformation, and the Xbox division is regrouping. Nadella reminded the team, “We must ensure that friends today are still friends tomorrow.” This indicates that Microsoft will continue to value console players, PC gamers, and fans of titles like “Forza Horizon” and “Halo.”
