Tesla opens its first supercharger station for the Semi all-electric semi-truck in California, USA, with a theoretical power of up to 1.2 MW
IT House March 9 News, according to automotive media Electrek yesterday, Tesla has opened its first Megacharger supercharger station for the Semi all-electric semi-truck in Ontario, California.
Reportedly, Tesla chose Ontario for strategic reasons. The city is located in the “Inland Empire” region with a developed warehousing industry, one of the busiest freight corridors in the world, near the intersection of I-10 and I-15 highways. It is a key node for electric trucks transporting goods to the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach and inland distribution centers.
In terms of specifications, Tesla’s Megacharger supercharger theoretically can deliver up to 1.2 MW of power, capable of charging Semi to 60% in 30 minutes. This speed allows long-haul drivers to complete charging during mandatory rest periods, making it practically feasible for operations.
However, Tesla stated that the current power limit of this supercharger station is 750 kW.
Notably, Tesla previously operated two Megacharger stations, one in Sparks, Nevada, and another in Carson, California. However, these stations mainly served Tesla’s own fleet, while Ontario appears to be the first Megacharger supercharger station openly available to customers.
