National Development and Reform Commission Official Says to Improve Elderly Care Systems

March 7 — On the afternoon of March 7, Liu Dechun, Director of the Social Development Department of the National Development and Reform Commission, stated at a press briefing by the State Council Information Office that to ensure proper elderly care, the “14th Five-Year Plan” draft emphasizes establishing a sound basic pension benefit determination and adjustment mechanism, gradually increasing basic pensions for urban and rural residents, implementing long-term care insurance, developing community-embedded elderly care services, family care beds, and mutual aid elderly care, renovating and upgrading 2,000 public elderly care institutions, with nursing beds in elderly care facilities reaching 73%.
