Kpler’s Amena Bakr stated that OPEC+ decided to slightly increase daily oil production by 206,000 barrels in April, reflecting the need to protect its limited spare capacity as Middle East geopolitical risks escalate and threaten global supply. According to this data provider, the alliance’s current spare capacity is about 3.5 million barrels per day. Bakr, Kpler’s Head of Middle East Energy and OPEC+ Affairs, said, “Consuming this buffer capacity too quickly, especially in an environment where conflicts could threaten key export routes, increases vulnerability.” She also added, “The current focus is on spare capacity and how to manage this limited reserve in such emergency situations.”
