SEC drops charges against Justin Sun and Tron, Rainberry agrees to pay a $10 million fine
Deep Tide TechFlow News, March 6 — According to The Block, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has dropped its charges against Tron founder Justin Sun, Tron Foundation, and BitTorrent Foundation filed in 2023. Meanwhile, Rainberry (formerly BitTorrent Inc.), which developed the BitTorrent protocol and BTT cryptocurrency tokens under Sun’s leadership, has been ordered to pay a $10 million civil fine to the SEC.
In 2023, the SEC accused Sun and his three related companies of unregistered sales of TRX and BTT tokens, and alleged that Sun manipulated TRX prices through false transactions and paid celebrities to promote the tokens without disclosure. According to documents released on Thursday, the defendants agreed to SEC’s terms but did not admit or deny the allegations.
