Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, March 5 — Premier Li Qiang introduced in the government work report that over the past year, China has accelerated the construction of a Beautiful China and promoted green and low-carbon development.

Solid efforts have been made to improve air pollution prevention and control, with the average concentration of PM2.5 in cities at or above prefecture level decreasing by 4.4%. Continuous strengthening of protection for major rivers and lakes has increased the proportion of surface water sections with good quality to 91.4%. The construction of pilot zones for Beautiful China has been launched. The green and low-carbon transformation of key industries has been accelerated. The first batch of “Shagehuang” new energy base projects has been basically completed and put into operation. The installed capacity of new energy storage exceeds 130 million kilowatts, and the share of non-fossil energy consumption has reached 21.7%. China announced its 2035 national contribution targets for climate change response, fully demonstrating its responsible major country stance.
