According to a report by French media on May 5, support aircraft for the U.S. military have been authorized to enter Istres Air Base in southern France, but on the condition that these aircraft do not participate in U.S. military operations within Iran. French commercial television channel TF1, citing the French Armed Forces General Staff, reported that the aircraft authorized to use Istres Air Base are support aircraft, not combat aircraft. This authorization does not involve France’s military bases in the Middle East. The French military stated that this arrangement is a routine procedure within the NATO framework. Given the current situation, France has explicitly requested that the relevant aircraft not participate in any form of U.S. military operations against Iran and can only be used strictly to support France’s defense needs with regional partners.
